David Shepherd
David, a former Academy Tutorial board member, has been the tutorial’s Government & Economics tutor since 1996 and is the tutor for the Academy’s three history courses. His experience in public policy includes serving as: Focus on the Family’s family policy council representative in Tennessee, a consultant for the Republican National Committee and both Reagan-Bush campaigns, a policy researcher for Intercessors for America, and a political campaign consultant. These experiences form much of the basis of his working knowledge of government and an understanding of the political and economic issues that are at the center of our current national debate. In addition, David approaches the study from a Christian and biblical worldview and helps students integrate into their Christian faith what they are learning, and encourages them to think about policy issues in a way that is consistent with their beliefs as Christians. He is a graduate of David Lipscomb University with a BA in Communications and is working toward a post-graduate Certificate in Diaconal Studies through Trinity School of Ministry, a seminary based in Pittsburg. He is the husband of 40-plus years to the Academy tutor Cherie Shepherd and the father of eight homeschooled kids, all of whom have attended The Academy Tutorial. David has worked in Christian publishing since 1993 and today serves as a publishing consultant and literary agent for Christian authors and organizations.
